Re-Installing PABXSoft

Without doubt the most commonly asked question is "How do I re-install PABXSoft?"

Which files should be backed up from the existing installation?
Hard disk failure - No backup of database / license key available?
Re-installing because of error messages
Lost all my Scheduled Reports during re-installation?

Documentation on HOW to re-install is available at this link

This can be because you want to move it to a new computer, re-format the existing computer, or after a hard disk failure.
It can also happen if error messages are appearing and it is possible that critical files are either missing or corrupted.

Which files should be backed up from the existing installation?
If you are fortunate enough to be at the stage where PABXSoft is still functioning and you simply need to know what files to save then the process is very simple. You will need (1) Your Reports Version, (2) Your license file (3) The pabxcalls.mdb database

First, open the Reports screen and go to Help, About, and check your REPORTS version number. If the REPORTS (not Call Collector) is Version 7 or Version 8 then when you come to re-installing use the Version 8 Installer
If the version is 4,5,or 6 then use the Version 6 installer

At the same time note the Registered Name (who the software is licensed to). If you are trying to locate your license file it will be in this name (e.g. Your Company Name.LIC). For Version 4 and 5 installations your license file will be called LICKEY.LIC. See License file information if you need more information

The pabxcalls.mdb database is where all your existing call data is stored. It not only contains the telephone call records, it also contains all your setup information (Extension names, Departments, Call Costs etc). You should save this file if you want to keep your information when you re-install. Close Call Collector/Call Collector windows Service and Reports first. The database is typically found on the computer that has been running Call Collector at C:\Program Files\PABXSoft\Call Collector\Data. The Data folder also contains another folder called 'Daily' which contains all the individual daily raw data files. If you want these as well, then save the entire DATA folder (Recommended). It is possible that the database is NOT in the described location. If you can not locate it there, then with Call Collector terminated, open Reports>Setup>Database Location. This will show you the database location.

So, with a copy of your Data folder saved somewhere safe, the license file and knowledge of your Reports Version number, you can re-install. See Instructions on installation here

Hard disk failure - No backup of database / license key available?
If you have no backup copy of your database then you are faced simply with re-installing PABXSoft and starting as if it is a completely new installation. You will need your license key, and knowledge of which Version of PABXSoft to install.

Re-installing because of error messages
PABXSoft requires hundreds of files to operate correctly. Many of these files are 'shared' files (files that other software programs also use). If another application software is uninstalled on your computer and shared files are removed in the process, then PABXSoft will not operate correctly (or at all). In order to re-instate these files you need to re-install PABXSoft. This is easy to do so long as (1) You have all PABXSoft programs fully closed down (2) You know which version of PABXSoft to download and install and (3) You are careful during the process to NOT over-write your existing Database file. If the Database file is over-written you have lost all your data !!!

Assuming you can still open Reports, go to Help>About and check your REPORTS Version Number.
If the REPORTS (not Call Collector) is Version 7 or Version 8 then when you come to re-installing use the Version 8 Installer If the version is 4,5,or 6 then use the Version 6 installer

Then close all PABXSoft programs down.
Then go and take a copy of your DATA folder and save it somewhere safe just in case something goes wrong.
The data folder is on the computer running Call Collector. Typically found at C:\Program Files\PABXsoft\Call Collector\Data. You can discard this copy once the software is back up and running again, although keeping a copy permanently is not a bad idea.

Then run the Installer you have downloaded, and when you are asked to overwrite the existing database say NO.

That should be all you need to do. Then re-start your Call Collector/Call collector Windows Service

Lost all my Scheduled Reports during re-installation?
Regrettably, any Reports you have set up in the Scheduler program will be lost during re-installation. They will need to be re-created.
