Repairing a corrupted database

There are three main reasons why the database in PABXSoft becomes corrupted...

1. Someone decides to open the database up and take a look.
2. The database was open and data being written to it when the PC was shut down
3. The database size was allowed to exceed 1 gigabyte.

1. Someone decides to open the database up and take a look. They use a more recent version of Access (e.g. Access 2003 or Access 2007) than our database structure (Access97), and in so doing convert the database to the later version rendering it useless to PABXSoft which has all it's code written around the structure of an Access97 database.

Fix? Convert it back to Access97 format. Easier said than done if it was converted to 2007 format. In order to convert is back from Access 2007 to Access 97 it first has to be converted back to 2003 format. Then opened in Access 2003 and converted back to Access97. This is because, MicroSoft in their wisdom decided not to provide the option in Access2007 to convert back to Access97, figuring that no one would want to...wrong!!

If it was opened in Access2003 and converted to 2003 format. No problem. Simply Save As and select Access97 format.

2. The database was open and data being written to it when the PC was shut down. This is normally fixable using the PABXSoft Database Repair Tool. First shut all PABXSoft programs down (e.g. Call Collector/Call Collector Windows service/Reports).

Then open My Computer and then C: drive, then Program Files, then PABXSoft and open the 'Database repair Toll Folder. Then double click DBVIEW, then select Database, Repair Database and double click the pabxcalls.mdb file.

Wait until you get Repair completed. Do not exit until the repair is complete and it tells you so, even if you are waiting ten minutes.,

3. The database size was allowed to exceed 1 gigabyte. A gig is the maximum size Access databases can grow to. If it gets above that size, then it's gone for ever. Start over and download a fresh database from the Downloads page of this web site.
